Well the reason that rabbiting was so widespread was because there wasn't too many who didn't have something at home With the arrow and RAN emblazoned on it . Seemed to me everyone was on the take I was no exception and i have many teachers or should i say They never actually encouraged me to rabbit.I just learnt from them And there were a few who taught me some valuable lessons.I just put those lessons into practice Put it this way if there was a mark on the PP1s for Rab bitting then i would have got A s.Mind you i never got one A in Pussers on any pp1 Plenty of bs but no As But now im off track . I first posted into Albatross in 1975 and i was sent to the wardroom Tassy Boyland was the chief in those days and Each day i watched him take home 2 cartons of piss I thought gee he can drink .Tassy and i got on real well and after a while he said want to come fishing so we be came fishing buddies and used to go out rock fishing around JB One day I said gee mate you drink a fair amount of piss each day you take home 2 cases and Fridays you take home 4 Then he said youre not that thick are you Quinny i said what do you mean He said its my Rabbits .I bring them in empty and take them home full .Not with beer either ? Then the penny dropped and the way to get ya rabbits out the wardroom right in the front of grunters eyes was in beer cartons . You beauty .Alas these days are all finished now with civvies running the shore based galleys and more accountability saw the end of the rabbiting .Different people had different ways of getting there rabbits of the base and to say cooks were innovative would be an understatement .I had only one close call in all my time in pussers and that was when i was canned by someone who was looking for promotion.No names no pack drill .You know who you are . Rastes and I were in the Butcher shop one Friday Talk about giving the keys to a chemist shop to a drug addict. Say no more . I really miss my rabbits i really cringe when i buy meat these days but oh the memories .
