Anzac Day sitrep
Well the medals are back in the china cabinet for another year And As usual I had a top day catching up with mates that i hadn't seen for yonks. I attended the Dawn service at Semaphore here in Adelaide its right on the beach And always a moving ceremony with the sun rise over the water always stirs the soul. Then after a gunfire brekky at the local RSL It was into the city to the march I hooked up with Rustic Paul and had a nag alas his back problem dosent allow him to march any more he stood and cheered me on as our contingent marched Past along with 10 thousand others . Now for the brickbat I was amazed to see many children of exservice. personnel Who were denied the opportunity to March on behalf of now deceased Personnel in the units that That their Relatives served. They were allowed to march but generally towards the end of the march. The powers that be seriously need to Revisit this and let the relatives march with the units that Their loved ones marched with .I'm not the only one who thinks this way and the general consensus of opinion is that this anomaly needs to be changed and the need to keep the Anzac tradition alive Must be uppermost in every ones mind . To perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades I feel that the powers that be must be lobbied to change this rule They could march behind the banner of the unit with the diggers leading the group and the rellys following behind each individual regiment. The Baton must be handed over at some from father to son or to grandchildren There has been such a resurgence of pride in the sacrifice That was made by our diggers and I don't want to see this jepordised By archaic rules and regulations. As always i will be guided by all members thoughts on this matter so feel free to put ya two bobs worth in.

I had a good day in Brisbane for the Anzac march. My group was one of the last to step off - after 1130am from memory, this was an excrutiating wait as I got there at 0830. The VLSVA Qld also represents some Army and RAAF contingents so technically we could'nt march with the other Naval contingents further towards the front of the march. The parade was led by the RAAF and there were what appeared to be thousands of both serving and ex-serving RAAF people at the front. I liked it better not so long ago when the Navy always led the parade. (The Senior Service) After the march, it was down to the river at nearby New Farm for the post march get-together and lunch. We had a couple of scouts holding the Banner upright down Adelaide Street, but it was too windy at the start of the march in George Street, so the Banner was carried laid flat at first. I was back home by about 1600hrs. Beautiful weather except a little too windy for holding the banner up for the first bit of the march. The Scouts did well toting our heavy Banner (Brother and Sister)

Yeah got a bit of a sciatic twinge/spasm as I was going up the hill toward Quinny on King William St., Adelaide which was a real bummer. Spent a bit of time checking the Vietnam Vets Memorial next to the Torrens Parade Ground. Very moving and emotional experience.

did the dawn service at cerberus bit dissapointing no gunfire breakfast this year in the senior sailors mess. probably due to new contract caterers .spotless has gone and taken over by transfield. seaford rsl opens the bar at 0700 hrs of course we stood up and was counted. marched , did the service and more drinks .they have quite a lot of sailors there so it is good to drink and tell lies. i was puffed out at two thirty but a good day had by all.

I did the whole thing in Townsville. I went to Maggie Island for the dawn service had a few drinks before heading back to the the mainland (Townsville) for the start of the march along the strand. It was the first time I'd marched in Townsville with the Naval association. It was a nice day. Then we all headed off to the RSL afterwards.
