I got mine on the 6-6-06 It is a good looking medal and I received my medal from malaya how are things going on out there in pusser cook world it has been quiet all the best of good health to all regards (shed) bill hearne

Jaffa- 06-06-2006

I know this is way "Off Topic  " . Bill 'Shed"Hearne was there at Cerberus Wets on my first night at the boozer at Cerberus . I wandered in having just posted in that day from doing my Cooks Course at Watson , didn't know anyone ,as every one else in my Leeuwin intake and the previous one , were either still on course or white washing rocks waiting for their course . Good thing was , I was still only 17 so I shouldn't have been in the Ships Company Boozer anyway , wasn't even legal for the O.Ds (closed at 2000 , no gashies) But I had a rate on my arm , so no questions at all from the duty Crushers . Chockers was particularly pissed off , as he is nearly a year older than me and was still only allowed in the OD s bar . No magic right arm rate!!! Anyway , there I was in the Wets , got a beer and looked around for a face I knew . Saw the face of a Dibby I knew from the Sydney and Leeuwin , went over to say "G'Day", promptly got grabbed by a trio of three badged Kellick and AB Cooks (in those days there was only Dress of the Day in the Boozer anywhere in the RAN) , showed over to the Cheffies table , in front of the fire , introduced around and told with heaps of feeling " to keep away from those Dib-Dab pricks . Turned out there was a real vendetta happening between the two branches . Remember that Shed? The Phantom of the CarPark? The bloke who was beating up confused Cheffies on their way to 6 block at night . I remember being told to never go back to the Blocks by myself . In the end it turned out to be an over weight ,stand over prick, that had watched too many Sunday arvo Golden Gloves sessions on TV . Here's one for your memories Bill , Jerry Rowlands pouring a beer down the Magpies throat every time they had a win . Or a certain female celeb (Ding -Dong is a clue ) , who did the Chrissy Show in 67 and the holes bored in the changeroom walls , just to see if they were "real" SH*T I'm having a Bundy Moment , Thats enough......................... :?

Question on behalf of a mate, ex pusser who is also considering sending in an app for the ADM. Billy W was discharged the same time as me to become a feral civvy, like me, only he went via Holdsworthy - 21 days. He reckons he was classified a 'snarler' and said its a shitty name for SNLR, Services No Longer Required as he opted to be discharged prematurely in this manner rather than serving out his time in pussers. Doe someone discharged as a SNLR qualify for the ADM, even though having served for over 4 years? Gracias in advance, couldn't get this info for him online or phone.

CliffWhatley- 06-13-2007

Paul, I reckon you would have to interpret this elegibility criteria to determine if he qualifies or not with particular emphasis on the following paragraph:- Eligibility for the medal has been extended to those personnel who: have died in service; have been medically discharged with a compensatory impairment at the time of their discharge, thus rendering them unable to serve the required minimum qualifying period; or have honourably served but, due to some Defence workplace enlistment policies of the time (as determined by the Chief of the Defence Force), were unable to serve the required minimum qualifying period. This site refers http://www.defence.gov.au/medals/Header/NoFrameHeader.htm Go ahead and apply anyway, the worst that can happen is a negative reply which in itself would be proof of service. I'd frame it and put it up on the wall if it came to that.

Paul_Dibby- 06-13-2007

Yeah I read that Cliff, and told him its a tough call to whether Canberra see SNLR as Honourable or Dishonourable? Went to the JP with him and my apps, signed and sent off regardless....mine may not get through as I was on chooks for 90% of the time I was in.

Paul_Dibby- 07-29-2007
