BREW BREAK LEGENDS
We all have our brew break stories and believe me after20 years ive got a few heres one that readily comes to mind It was a Sunday morning brew break and i was duty in the main with Maurie Hinton, Rastes Meehan and a couple of others whom i forget well we were sitting down for the brew and I was reading my paper when all of a sudden it burst into flames it was fairly cooking let me tell you of course i dropped it like a hot brick and started stomping out the flames alas not bloody quick enough as ther fire alarm went off. Meantime Rastes is absolutley pissing himself as he had lit my paper with his lighter Maurie and all the rest had a good laugh. Then the Albatross fireys turned up as they do, mean time the paper is in the bin all charred up and the fireys said some one must have thrown a butt in here and set the bin on fire yeah thats what must of happened said Rastes with a grin on his face Gee he was a fibber and we had a bit of a reputation did him and me so the chief put us together in the one watch, talk about rotten apples in the same barrel. I have plenty of rastes stories as him and me are good mates and remain so to this day one of the true characters of the cooks branch Regards Quinny

my memories
This was probably the only time I got to sit down when I was on Manoora. I was a non- smoker and I worked a bit slow as not to stress my self out. I wish I was a smoker back then because they got to see more sunshine then the non smokers. The brew breaks at the wardroom at Kuttabul were fun we use to sit out the front until we got relegated to the back of the ward room. The maingalley brew breaks had the view of Sydney heads and the best coffee in pussers. Cerberus brew breaks were good they had the regular choice of drinks and heaps of chairs and space to sit in.

My first \"Duty Cook\" ,Cerberus '67. I got more instructions on \"The Brew\" than anything else . 0330 piss , go around 6 block and piss the rest of the watch , LCK last at 0400 . Over to No1 Galley, lights on and flash-up . Bain-Marie of milk in the steamer to boil , two mugs of instant coffee , one of sugar , whisk well and into a double boiler in one of the big coppers. The toops would wander in, the big ovens would be opened up and everyone would stand in front of them thawing out and having the first brew and a smoke . Looking forward to the 24 off coming up. Didn't get much better , specially if it was a Friday morn and a long weekend looming. Then there was the morning I flashed -up and there was NO STEAM !!!! Bad . Bad, Day!!
