Cars & Bikes of Old and New Berky !! Had one of them , '74 Escort Ghia GT , Cosworth 1.6lt motor and Lotus 4 speed box. Burnt Orange with Black bonnet and go fast stripes down the side . Once did Cerberus to Frankston down the back road in 18 minutes . Shit it could move !!
Better get back on subject .
Like the blue , easy on the old eyes .
There ya go Jaffa, reckon Cliff will just love this thread
Mate, them thar Cosworths are fricking gold these days....every year I take my boys up in the Adelaide Hills to watch the Classic Adelaide Rally.
Couple of the spectators who are in the know, reckon the Escorts running Cosworths are valued over $30,000???
Mate that hurts even more.
Heres one for ya, when I discharged from pussers, waited anxiously for my DFRB payout and once deposited into my Commonwealth Bank account. Once through, went to a car yard near Parramatta to buy a cage.
Pounced on an ex Bathurst Cooper S Mini....now this was around '77 and I think it set me back around $2,500.
Mate did that little sucker motor along, frickin dangerous.
Had what was claimed to be a 1/2 race cam, had Lynx Delorto carbs replacing the SU's....awesome.
I was the envy of many mates I had back then where I lived near Granville for around 2 years after I got out of pussers.
Then some guy steamed through a stop sign near the Auburn Hospital and whammo, my little 'gokart' was no more.
Had it repaired but it was never the same after I tee-boned the silly bugger, not long after it was repaired, I was cruising along out near Wisemans Ferry and the left CV joint gave way, the whole front left-hand side collapsed.
That did it, got another insurance repair from NRMA and sold the sucker....then bought what was a near new condition '72ish XY Falcon with a 250 6 cyl.
Drove her back to Adelaide and still had it around 15 years later.
Also owned a Dato 1600 at the same time, and mate, still stand by this that these 2 donks were bulletproof and the best most reliable and easy to tune motors I've ever had the pleasure to run.
The Ford 250, and the Dato 1600....bloody awesome.
Many years later, I bought a Hartley boat....guess what inboard I insisted on putting in it?....a Datsun 1200.

I have a mate up this way (Neil) who is a British Ford fanatic.
I just drool whenever I go to his place - he is a Panelbeater/Spraypainter by trade and has a workshop in his yard.
He also has a shed where all of his cars are stored.
he has Zephyrs, Zodiacs, Consul, Anglia and a few Cortinas including a GT Cortina and a full on Lotus Cortina.
I would love to get my hands on one of his Cortinas, they were something else up to and including 1966.
I think I am getting the chance to drive one of the Zephyrs soon to a car meet. (He is taking three of them).
He will be touching up the bodywork on my Ford in the near future, although it is a bit out of place not being a British Ford.

You should have been at the 'Tross when Tyrone Philp was there with his passion for nice Fords and Bruce Stringfellow with his very warm Holden.
At that stage Steve was bushbashing his Trail Bike with Pig West and myself on ours.

For pure fun and adventure , the best machine I ever owned was a Long wheel base Series 111 Land Rover ('72).Those at Cerb in the late 70s would remember it .
Once I threw out the Rover 2.8 6 cyl and replaced it with a 186 Holden motor with a Fairly over drive it turned in to a great highway cruiser and bush basher.
Loved it , until ex-wife ( wonder why) , traded it in for a 2lt Celica (!!!!) while I was at sea . Reckoned that the fore mentioned Cosworth Escort was hers and I had bent it badly (had to shoot it ) so there fore she could trade my Landy !!!

Yes bob i had one hell of a time gettig the brown stains out of my uderps after a ride on the back of his bike down Albatros road. I hear tyrone mentioned in despatches and im led to believe hes living in Tassy somewhere, the buzz was he owned a car yard down there Sounds like something hed get into.Yes only two speeds with TyRone .Stop or like a bat out of hell.Never ever went on the back of a bike again after that .
Paul_Dibby- 12-20-2007
Ah yeah, pillion passenger eh.
First time I jumped on the back of a bike, was a girl by the name of Nola riding it, a Kwaka 900.
I asked before we took off, what do I hold on to?....first I tucked my hands in under the seat, nearly leant back and fell off as she took off, so then wrapped me arms around her.
As she was riding along, had to alternate her hands, one on the handlebars, the other slapping off one or both of my hands. So I went further down around her waist.
Well I did ask!
Anyway, got done doing donuts one night outside the GI gates near Harry's Pie Cart. I was going alright but some disgusted civvy who didn't much like pie floaters, chucked his feed out on the bitumen nearby.
My rear tyre slipped badly and I dropped it, breaking pegs and brake lever.
Could have sworn I heard a smartarse Docky Copper clapping?
quinny- 12-20-2007
Talking about the Harrys pie cart i was watching The collectors show on tv and they were doing a story on the Powerhouse museum in Sydney they have so many exhibits that the cant show them all so they srore them in a wharehouse .
The Collectors crew took the viewers through this Treasure trove of interesting things and there it was the old Harrys pie cart a real sydney Icon just waiting to be done up and put on display. So thats where it ended up a if any one ever what happened to it .
quinny- 12-20-2007
Yes Paul that dit would be worth hearing in more detail I've started a Harry's thread on the forum be good to see a dit like this on that site you dibbys loved Harrys, and no doubt you will have a dit or 2 to spin .
