Couran Cove , here I come.
I'm going to be starting a chefs job in the main kitchen at the Couran Cove Island resort. I begin working there on the 4th of December. Does anyone have any info about the local area?? I've never been to the Gold Coast and I've only ever been to the Brisbane airport and the bus station. Any one want to give me a tour on my days off. Drop me a line.

Yes smitty idont know much of this resort but sounds like you have landed a good job Youll have plenty to do on your days off thats for sure accomadation is a bit expensive so if your job comes with that included in the package then you wil be ok Just in time for the silly season on the gold coast youll be as busy as a one armed man in a dick pulling comp There are Quite a few ex cooks up that way if you have alist of ex cooks you will see a lot have settled up that way May pay to get into the gunplot and post same message wish you well in your new job regards Quinny

It's a popular resort on Sth Stradbroke Island accessed to and from by boat (usually Cats)across the Broadwater to Runaway Bay Marina on the Mainland. No roads apart from within Couran Cove Resort and sandy bush tracks around the rest of the island. The other popular spot on the island is Tippler's a little further north and popular with boaties. Lots of old people go there so mashed veges are popular. A short walk to the surf side of the island for Tailor fishing. http://www.couran-cove.com.au/content/?id=2

Sooo glad.
It was my last night at my old job tonight. Some dickhead (a third year) said to me as I was walking out the door \"So whats it like been a qualified chef and been beaten by a third year?\" I just said \"yeah what ever\". I was just glad to get away. The place was badly run when I started, too many changes as there had been 3 head chefs in 4 months, the functions I wouldn't want anything to do with. The last head chef (who is stilll there) was a bit of a nutter and he hadn't even been there a month yelling at everyone and only needed to yell at the person individually. The menu 2 things on there were illegal (false advertising, ect). They monopolised at this council run place not letting anyone else smaller like mobile food vans, ect cash in. We won't talk about the prices cause that will just clog up this forum. Can anyone relate?

I made it
I got into Brisbane on Wednesday. I spent a few days there before I started on the Monday. On Friday I arrived on Couran Cove. They told me 1/2 way through the day \"oh we don't need you until Wedneday\" :x  :? Lucky I had more relatives to visit or I would have been bored out of my brain. All the pubs/bars/restraunts close at about 830pm-9pm. My pay comes around every fornight. A slab of XXXX costs $35 (WTF) and that is with the staff discount.

Best bit
1.It all comes down to organisation and speed. 2. Its only $80 to stay if you have family and friends stay over on the island

staff christmas party
Held at The Hope Island Golf course (anyone heard of this place.) Theme was polynesian with traditional dancing and all whist we were outside having some pre- dinner drinks that went all night!!! Food was an awesome buffet. There was a great DJ who played the best music. I didn't even have a hang over the next day and I'm sooooo glad I had the day off.

sucks to be me!
I'm leaving soon but I'll be soooo glad. Its doing my head in. I'm exhausted everytime I come home even when I do get a break. I have something to eat. It feels like my legs are going to fall off if I don't stop. Also I took a risk financially comming here since now I am having financial hardships. You know more going out then comming in. I'm so glad I live with a back up plan. Financially, life and career. You gotta or else I'd be stuck!

The exec chef left (after 4 years), the 2nd chef has left after 4 months. I'm still here though. My attitude has changed since christmas. I working at a different outlet on the island.

Smiddy, So you must now be the No 1 chef, Eh? Which establishment do you work at now. Will have to come and try out your cooking, one day.

cheers for that!
I'm not the no1 chef but I do alright. The school holidays are comming up soon so its going to be full on. They will have the surf club open for dinner it doesn't happen very often but the great chef of banquets kitchen has put it too the powers that be that they should open it up and lets just say he has made it happen. It is a nice place to work at now that I have stuck it out long enough. I'm glad I did there was so many days there that I was prepared to pack it all in and move back to Townsville.

No longer working here.
I got asked to find alternative accomadation on the main land and I couldn't afford to live in the local area and also I don't have a car. I've moved to Brisbane and started working for pinnacles. I only have 3 shifts this week. But this arrangement is only for a short time because after I go home for a week in June I'll be moving to the Gold Coast when I return. Hopefully I can get something for 6 months. My old boss at Couran use to work at the Cable Beach resort. I wouldn't mind going there. All I have to do is apply for that one and wait for a response.
