Dead Ants
lets have a bit of fun and think back to when we were young and thought we were bullet proof and played the tricky game of dead ants in and on many a pub floor. there must be a million great stories to be told and remembered about this great drinking game. here's one i tell my grand children . in the spring of 1962 in a pub just out of Port Morseby Koki Village pub i think it was. Kevin Larter , jim carey , and a couple of other cooks from the Anzac i just cant recall there names maybe Speed Beasley and myself were having a few Rums in the beer garden (you couldn't drink the beer )and decided to liven the place up a bit. with a bit of sing sing bare your ring then some fool yelled out DEAD ANTS! we all hit the deck on our backs with legs and arms kicking and waving laughing our guts out when a lovely lady comes and leans over Kevin Larter and says are you allright you poor man ,let me give you a hand up... kevin replies Piss off they havn't said LIVE ANTS yet. we were asked to leave i still dont know why . no sense of playing the game i suppose but still brings a tear to my eyes thinking about it and many other great times had with great oppos after all these years. well must get up off the floor and get a cuppa . hope to read some good ones .cheers Johnno

Yeah all the sailors knew of this dead ants concept but not to many of the civvies. It worked really well if someone called dead ants and every one joined in it was a sailors thing and good fun .It was still in when i joined but fell out of flavor as time went by. I had completely forgotten about it.

Good story reminded me of the time in Macasssa in Indonesia when we all pretty well primed and were doing Old Mc Donalds Farm with all the actions the locals loved it. I think we had to do it three times in a row!

I remember playing dead ants and also another gem called Buck Buck where all these mad cooks would run up the wall on each others backs and form a pyramid to the deckhead...They called the police in Olongapo in september '68 after one great Buck Buck during an Exhibition in a bar called "Susies" they just didn't see the humour in it....They were used to Dead Ants but Buck Buck was new to them...
