DFRB/DFRDB
A Forum member sent me this email, can any of you offer some solid opinions or advice please?. Cliff, I received this e-mail from one of the veteran's case officer this morning. I would like to know if any one else knows any thing about it. If it is true, does it mean you are allowed to earn $33273 or is it earnings plus DFRDB to be under this amount. Your's ----- Original Message ----- To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 3:00 PM Subject: DFRB/DFRDB Subject: DFRB/DFRDB I am not sure how true this is but like any service pay rise, dont spend it till you get it. Rgds.David The Parliamentary Secretary for Superannuation re the tax on DFRDB and DFRB, he advises the following: As from July 1 2007 DFRB and DFRDB recipients who earn less than 33,273 dollars will not pay tax on their super. This means that the DFRB and DFRDB will be effectively tax free. The equity problem, re funded or unfunded is not being looked at, so that side of things will not change. The outcome is as follows: 1. No tax on DFRB & DFRDB 2. Keep your earnings below the tax threshold and suffer no penalty 3. If you earn more than the threshold you will pay tax on the residue only. Hope this has cleared up some of the areas of concern.

This was in the latest VLSVA Qld Newsletter :- http://www.users.bigpond.com/vlsvaqld/newsletter.htm DFRDB Tax offset. Those DFRB/DFRDB pensioners who are or will be 60 years or older on 01 July 2007 will be entitled to claim a Tax Offset of 10% of the total amount of taxable DFRDB pension. For instance if your DFRB/DFRDB taxable pension is $25,000 you will be entitled to a tax offset of $2,500. For those pensioners who are currently less than 60 years of age will become eligible for the tax offset as they turn 60 years, with a pro rata amount in the first year they turn 60. The DFRDB Authority advised the Association on 19 January 2007 that pensioners who are entitled to the 10% Tax Offset will be able to nominate how they would like the offset to be paid. The options: Do nothing and the DFRDB Authority will work out your annual tax offset.
