I have told this story a long time ago on another site.
We have a friend who was a Stores Assistant many years ago.
His daughter is now a Lt in the Navy, (full time).
When she first entered a wardroom, she noticed the crockery and cutlery had the same crest on the items as did her own family crest.
Her dad had told the family that the crest was the original crest and the initals, which were R.A.N., also belonged to the family.
Funny thing is, this girl mentioned to her senior officer the similarity when she first saw it...needless to say her dad has been waiting for the "knock on the door" for many years.
On a personal note, our mate R.A.N must have left a couple of spoons and two knives when he visited us a long time ago, as the items are still in the cutlery draw, as I speak!!!!!!!

Yes and just maybe if the navy had supplied lead sinkers for us cooks fishing adventures .Then the main galley at the Tross would still have its lead flashing .
If any one ever wondered why thy Tross main galley leaked liked a sieve When it rained its because the lead flashing had been removed to make sinkers.

I have memories from pussers.....memories I should not have. Beanies in the Philippines, I'm married, I should not have them.
When I play Ping pong with the family i laugh out loud when the thought of lovely ladies in Thailand popping them out of orifices, I should not have them, I play this game with my family. I still can't eat a whole banana an no one has ever opened a coke bottle quite the same since. These are memories I should not have as I respect all people.
The smell of 100 or so sailors asleep after a night on the piss and the AC is busted. This is a smell no body deserves have.
Arriving on board early in the morning after a night ashore and in the pitch black putting my hand in a puddle of spew because my oppo in the top bunk had a big night and could not get out of the rack. How do I know who it was? i know because when I turned on the bunk light he had chunks of carrot on his pillow and around his mouth. I should not have this.
Being woken in the middle of the night by 2 oppo's fighting because one got up and was so drunk he forgot where the heads were and pissed on someone in their bunk. I should not have this.
The smell of the mess deck first thing in the morning with everyone farting. I still believe this has affected my sense of smell. I should not have this.
Cracking the rotten eggs on the grill plate and half formed chickens coming out. I should not have this.
The smell of rotting potatoes. I should not have this.
But, when I am alone with my thoughts and the black dog is biting hard on my arse, these are the thoughts that bring a smile to my face and give me the energy to fight on another day. So, in the end, these would be things that any person who has not experienced life at sea should not have. For me they are my essential memories that help me fight for my life and bring me a happiness that only a Pussers Cook would understand.

What a great post Snelly i am still laughing, because it has happen to all of us. I will add one more point that i now use an electric Razor because you don't know where Bic gets it blades from.
Also it was like a surprise every morning alongside uptop to see what "rabbits" had made it into the mess ofter a night on the piss. I once brought back onboard a yellow flashing "men at work" light in Hong Kong, it ended up in someones rack what a way to wake up with this strobe light flashing at you, great for the hangover.
