Galley Equipment
I have seen pictures of galleys and I was wondering about those big boilers/steamers. What was the highest temp they got to and what was the capacity of the largest one.

Comus ~ Re Boilers and Steamers No Idea how hot they got, apart from if you were'nt carefully they would burn you. As for there size they were big, I remember when I was serving on the carrier HMAS Melbourne, after rounds one night, one of the rather large cooks filled one of the coppers up and had a bath in, while he sang and scrubed himself, much to his content and the rest of the duty watch were doubled up in laughter. He probably got out, dried off, dressed and then tossed all the vegies in the bath water and served soup for the next meal.

Hi all "the GRONK Here Guns remember the sinks at Cerberus, and we got the old civy cleaner who cleaned the shit bins out the back??????and dumped him in, as he stunked so much , and the time you did 89 DAYS IN SLOTS FOR THE ACT AT THE PISS BAR ONE NIGHT, wont say what you did????? All the Cooks had to muster out side the Mess for you to have hats OFF, before you were marched "AWAY" to Hollsworthy. and the time we all went to Screemers in Melbourne???? with cook A.J.Hazelwood, in his V8 ford, after duty on a Sunday night, "a good night was had by all," and we still got back to do the Duty watch breakfast on Monday morning, and then we had our 24 OFF, so we could sleep, so NOW Cosman "THAT" was the real NAVY then, and what we got away with, we wouldn't be able to do it today. AND NOW THEY WANT TO GIVE US A MEDAL FOR OUR TIME IN THE GREY FUNNELL LINE, send it to me baby as we worked hard for it ????????? HA HA HA. Cheers for now. GRONK. William Hinds

Gronk ~ Sad to say mate I never did one days slot whilst in pusser's, let alone do anytime in or at Hollthsworthy. As for the wet canteen, still not guilty, you will find it was one married sailor. but I got blamed for it. In the same way Nick Tubecki and I got blamed for a lot of other things, yes thats right Nick had to do 90 days in Hollsworthy, for something two married men DID. Thats all FACT mate and not some made up fiction. But we still had a ball and always had the last laugh. Still Smiling ~ Gunns

Try working in the most modern kitchen around. I work at the C-Bar at Riverway in Townsville and it has refrigerated benchtops where you store your trays, ect. We have our own cake fridge, there is a fridge incorporated into our main fridge and you should just come and see the rest and how we fit it all in. Unbelievable.
