Gee We are getting bigger now
We are getting a bigger site now and alas we still dont have many contributers I know by the ammount that read my submissions that we have a goodly ammount of readers and that is encouraging. Sometimes id wish if you readers would just say howdy , nothing long or eloborate . Try and look at this way, you go and visit a mate and listen to what he has to say and then leave without saying stuff all . In many ways the internet has opened up a line of communication that wasnt available to us years ago And a lot of us are now on line, and I for one love talking to old pussers cooks and the odd dibbie that are on our site . I make it a habit to reply to all emails and go on this site most days, work permitting. You can always start your own thread (subject) and see where it goes and watch the replies come in.And it doesnt necesarily have to be pusser related .You can talk about footy, the latest news, your civvy life ,and what makes you happy, its end less what you can write about . You will find the white mafia arent too judgemetal and wiil always be on hand with A brickbat or a bravo Zulu For most submissions . I personally have got into contact with many ex cooks that I thought I would nevr hear from again. The same can be the norm for any one who joins the site . Some I havent even spoken to for 20 plus years and its a buzz catching up with them after so long . The oppotunity is there for all dont wait for the reunion to come around to get into contact with old shipmates. The last thing is to think is ,<that>. That is not the case . As recently as last week I Rang Noel Hillier (ex WOCK)and now theres a bloke i havent seen or had contact with for 20 odd years I only had a brief chat with him and I know he was glad to hear from me He remembered me and it doesnt really matter if he didnt we are all joined by that INVISIBLE BOND OF FRIENSHIP THAT THE NAVY INSTILLS IN US FROM DAY ONE . I look forward to hearing from all you fence sitters out there. So pull ya fingers out. Best Wishes Quinny

Nicely put Quinny . Personally I'd still like to see , to those that haven't , a few more details in their profiles . Just so we might know who you are . An iffy nick name or a couple of initials dont mean much .. so be one of the White Mafia and stick it up 'em !! Still not sure of that Dib-Dab tho . Think he's after a cafe hands job !!

Agree 100% with you Jaffa, I have'nt got any idea who some of them are, but I have been approving them after looking up the email address verses the Cooks Contact list and satisfying myself that they are not spammers. (I also check out the IP addresses and do searches on any new members username etc.) This procedure together with a few background setting changes has eliminated the spammers joining. (to my knowledge at least) I even went back and dug up our previous concerns about lack of identity here at:- http://maingalley.14.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=22 I have sent a few emails out for more detail about some basic identity, so at least we can identify the member in some way or another as kosher. Some or many apparently wish to keep their public profile blank, however, any member can email another member just by clicking on the email link in the profile. As soon as an anonymous member starts posting, I will delete them unless they put some kind of basic identity up. Jaffa, you have the authority as an Administrator to go behind the scenes in the Forum to the Administration Panel and check out the validity of any members supplied email address. (which is displayed there). The lack of basic identity has been a problem since day 1 of the Forum, but I really don't know what else to do other than to start deleting and reduce the forum membership by heaps. While I am on a roll, I have been looking at turning the Forum into a full on website for the best part of a year now and have registered the Main Galley name with 3 different providers, I have stumbled to a stop at the moment with being stuck at the basic Website building/construction stages. However, I am determined to get this up and running with branch histories, backgrounds, photo albums and everything else that goes with a proper Website. (with a link to the Forum) Hope this explains a few things, however I was more worried in recent times about our blokes innocently putting too much information up on public display. (for their own protection). Having said all of the above, I completely agree with you and Quinny, but as long as there are plenty of lookers getting the word out about the next Reunion - it's not too bad. Errol might be able to supply a bit of an update soon now that he is back from his recent travelling adventures.

Yes Thanks for the support fellas we can only wait and see. The idea of getting a full on website Cliff is full of merit and would be good perhaps you can get the cafe hand to give you a hand with this. I think Erroll is back I got an email from him a couple of weeeks back.Regarding the update of personal details for the up coming reunion .Yes it is a pain in the arse when you look into who is regiistered and there is nothing but a nick name and bugger all else. . I can only mirror you sentiments Jaffa and urge all those that are Currently registered to update your details it makes it easier on every one. We have the ones on the site that register and have yet to submit an article or say hello in a way these are the ones i would like to target . Keep Well Regards Quinny
