HMAS SYDNEY MEAT FREEZER 1965 Can you help

Recently at a Veterans' Review Board hearing he was knocked back on a pension. The basic details are that as a 17 year old en route to Vietnam in 1965 he was locked in the meat freezer for around four hours whilst checking the temperature gague inside the freezer during the middle watch. The Services Member of the Board stated that there was an electrical emergency release button inside the freezeer, even though it was a manual mechanical release arm and he stated that he never saw it or even knew of it's existence. What I would like to know is: (a) Was there an electrical emergency release button inside the meat freezer on board HMAS Sydney in 1965? (b) If not, then was there ever an electrical emergency release button inside the freezer and if so when was it installed? (c) Was there ever an emercency alarm button inside the meat freezer in 1965? As an ARMY Artificer I can't imagine that a mechanical release arm was also an electrical release arm, although I can imagine there may have been an emergency alarm button.
