Just A bower bird at Heart
Howdy all just thought id start something in here under hobbies Since you have closed the Rustic site paul Its good to put this topic in Here, the site has qiute a few members now and and this thread should get a good airing on here . Any way my favourite hobbie or obsession these days is Garage Sales And Hard rubbish days I love going through junk and You would be absolutley amazed at what ive picked up,thrown out on the side of the road People can be so wastefull . The tip is a good place for me its a big supermarket for me. I generally come home with something i can use or give away to some one.Im not one that scavenges from out the front of the salvos that is a real problem these days and the salvos have enough trouble with people dropping shit out the front of there shops that should be at the tip . I made a good living for 5 years buy buying at garage sakles and buying on the saturday then selling on the Sunday I had a Market stall under cover at the local produce markets at Pooraka here in Adelaide .I no longer have the stall but still go to garage sales And theres always the council hard Rubbish days where you get it for nix i picked up an old scooter a cyclops one circa 1950 and sold it fo 60 bucks had a bloke that i know restres them so it was just a phone call and he was here to pick it up. If you have the time to do things up then you can make some good money out of restoring. I dont have the time these days and just sell on. With garage sales the stuff you can pick up For a pittance never ceases to amaze me 2 weeks ago i went to one and saw rhese two forks i Knew what they were immediatley I was just hoping the person selling didnt know what they were I said how moch She said A doolar be Ok Shit yeah i was was out of there quicker than the ppoe in a brothel raid. Those same forks were both sterling silver with Real ivory Handles And will be put into auction where i have been assure d of getting 200 bucks each for them . One was made in 1885 and the other was 1840 They were both Halmarked and were easy to date It was like finding a nugget to all you fossickers out there Im no expert on things but Im pretty well up to speed with most things old or antique I had my own shop for a year or so just after i got out of pussers This is the trick a bit of knowledge when your buying at garage sales can make you some money . any way I have gibbered enogh shit so will close no Best wishes to all and happy scrounging Regards quinny
