Long Leave is Over & The Cerberus Bakery Right its time to hand in your leave passes and get your fingers working and tell us all what you have been doing sure as hell havent been submitting on the cooks site Its been very quiet in this forum of late Even if its your favourite joke it doesnt have to be an essay just something so the site dosent get stale.what ever happened to the bakery at cerberus I remember as part of our cooks course we had to spend a week in there and our duties were done in the main or wardoom or chiefs galley do they still bake at cerberus or has that gone these days. So much has changed in many ways in my time we seemed to have the best of it Do they teach the cooks how to bake now do they still bake at sea I left in 1991 And my last posting on the Canberra we still baked 2nd day out On the Sydney in the early 70s the cooks run a pie firm out of the bakery on board i was only an ord in those days so most of my time was spent doing cafe party and watch on deck as was the norm in those days . Perhaps those that may have worked in the bakery at cerberus could write a dit we had some good bakers in those days and I think the cooks of today were taught like us When iwas up at moomba we baked every morning that was the last time i made bread but it would have been so hard for me if i hadnt learned what i did i pussers any way i will finish off with a joke . A bloke walks into the jewellers and flops his old fella out on the bench and the sheila says "My god this is a clock shop not a cock shop"I know he said can you put a couple of hands on this for me . Quinny, the only time I spent in the bakery at cerberus was cooking Christmas cakes for the hierarchy but we passed the bakery part of the course anyhow. loved baking at sea from the old Sydney doing the vung tau runs to the Brisbane. didnt know you could have so many friends when the bread & rolls came out of the oven especially if there was butter & vegemite handy. the joke wasnt either.

Still happens... I was at cookery school in 2000. We did 17 weeks at Tafe in the last bit before the restraunt phase of our course we learnt how to do desserts, baking bread, ect. Then for the last 4 weeks of our course in the restraunt phase one of the sections was for desserts and bread baking. Exciting  stuff it gets better. We did a few days at the Bakels factory for our single service part of our course. This is the bit the Army and Airforce aren't part of.
My one and only sea draft on Manoora was where we did bake bread everynight at sea.
At CCIR we bring all that kind of stuff in. Preistlys is one of the brands they buy and the cakes are absolutely delicious!

Hi Quinny & Cliff
Just letting you know that I bumped into Bob Southwell today, he lives next door to my son, but hardly see him due to his work.
He is still working out at Lavarack Barracks but looking for something else.
Told him that I had spoken to you and some others and he says Hi to you all. He has computer problems with his internet connection and hopes to get it all sorted out soon.
Cliff, I told Bob about the site and will drop the link to him so hopefully he will get in touch soon.
Cheers
Jude
