Memberlist Green Grenade
Yes I'll call it a green grenade Christ knows what colour the request forms are these days. When I was in we used slate and chalk, anyway enough of the frivolity  . My request and thus that of the administrators on this site is that when you join the site is that you put up a reasonable profile of yourself . The reasons for a informative profile are two fold in as much as it lets all the other members know who you are and where you're at. This one named profile frustrates the bejesus out of most members. As we are left scratching our heads as to who you are and where you served. It does'nt have to be your life story just a brief sitrep in a lot of cases new members to the site join and alas that's the last we hear from them and we have nothing but a nickname in some cases. I'm aware some of you might have some privacy issues and i respect that and you don't have to put down phone numbers and addresses, just perhaps the ships or depots and when you served would be good and the current town or state you are living would be excellent. The site has really got big since i joined and the administrators need to keep accurate details of who joins and the only way they can do this is by you filling in the details. Its an unrealistic expectation of new members to think that they will get replies from other members if they have not filled in the profile Once again its a small thing but its now becoming vitally important given the continual growth of our site. Thanks Quinny

No charity on my part Lindsay I have no regrets paying of as an AB I had all the opportunities but was happy as an AB and have no regrets . A few of the Chief Birdies paid off after 20 and got jobs driving the depot shit truck. 'Not much call for handlers in civvie street or a lot of other branches .

Im more than happy with my $480 a fortnight pension And always be mindfull the more you get the more tax ya pay. When i first got out I got a job up at Moomba and was on the big money and lost a lot of my pension as tax as it was income as well When you see your 20 year pension gobbled up like that Its a bitter pill to swallow .I have the utmost respect for those that made it to senior sailors and above and they well deserve their entitlements. No Lindsay you don't come across as a dick head you are more than entitled to your opinion on any subject And this site encourages friendly banter and never be hamstrung by what you believe mate .We are all big boys on this site . For memory i only paid as DFRDB contributions No more than 14 Grand So with commutation and long service leave etc I got about 50 grand plus when i started out my pension was 320 a fortnight now with all the CPI adjustments im now on 480 So whether you pay off as an Ab or chief Its still a dam good wicket to be on and im glad i stuck it out and there a re a few of us 20 abs out there who think the same.

Quinny you are dead correct. I look at my 27 DFRDB Pension, I receive $908.11 per fortnight before tax, as being payment for all the crap we all put up with (that is rounds, bloody mindless duties, inspections ,divisions, working 7 days a week, starting a 6AM and working thru until 18:00 to meet operational requirements). A good example is HMAS Newcastle is being put thru its paces today by the Sea Training Group (Fleet Green Team (Molly would know who they are) so the entire ship had to be onboard by 05:45 for the bullshit to start. Leave will be granted when the Green Team are satisfied. Leave on Newcastle on fridays usually commences for everybody at 12:00 noon but I bet my left nut they will p*ss them about until 17:00ish!! That is the short of sh*t that I do not miss about the Navy. cheers, Lindsay
