Molly (Kanimbla) what's the go??
Molly, With the reduction of cooks billet throughout the Navy, what is the Sea/Shore Ration these days for AB & LSCK? In a previous posts a former POCK stated that he did 11 & half years out of 20 years at Sea. Today's Cook, if you can get them to stay for 20, what would their sea service obligation roughly be :?: PS:- How are you getting on with me old sparring partner Harry Lok (former AB Greenie) ??? cheers, Lindsay

Lindsay, Well I wouldn't like to be an AB or Killick cook in this day and age. It's not the work load, it's not the pay, it's the constant sea time. The sea shore roster may say that they 3 at sea and 18 months ashore, but with the problem with cooks that aren't fit for sea, and there are plenty of them, these guys are lucky to see 12 months ashore if they are fit. In fact most of them are back at sea within 6 months. Be it operational relief or a posting, respite ashore if you are fit for sea is a thing of the past. This is the reason why we are loosing so many good/very good young cooks from our ranks. POs get a good 3-4 years ashore between sea drafts for a two year sea stint and CPO's only do 18 months at sea and could spend five years ashore between drafts. We don't loose too many CPOCKs, life is just too good. Money's good, conditions are good, ship's fine and routines are good. Why would I leave. As for Harry, he going well. He gets out again in Dec/Jan, unless they need him somewhere else. He's a good boss, you don't see much of him unless he's looking for a feed or you owe him money. Regards, Molly

I wouldn't mind getting back in it might be hard. I just don't like the extra stuff cooks have to do on top of being a chef thats hard enough.
