Old SAIGON Street Map,
G'day Everyone ! Windy Hill here, ( Steward HMAS Perth ) Nice to see a few more ' Familiar ' Names on here ! There is one item I would like to raise with you all today to see if you ( Or any of your Army Mates ? ) are able to help us out here...... and today I am talking on behalf of the Orphanage I represent in Saigon The Sancta Maria Orphanage http://www.flickr.com/photos/peter_and_trinh/sets/ This matter is of big concern to us at the Orphanage, as we are often asked here where the halfway houses, and care centers and even other orphanges and churches and other places are, that supplied our orphanage ? Now whilst we may have addresses, you might know, that the Vietnamese Government likes to change the names of the Roads, Streets and even Districts ? Gia Dinh / Binh Thanh is one such example ! They even change the direction that the numbers go in the street ? Our Orphanage is one such example, it used to be 377 / 96 but now is 377 / 18 ? And we have had people recently who didn't know this had happenned and had actually walked past the Orphanage not knowing that it was now 18 and not the old 96 so have come all the way to Vietnam and missed Us ! Thinking that it was no longer there. How Unfortunate and Sad.............. So, what we are trying to find is a copy of the Old Street Names in Saigon if you know anyone has an Old Street Map, or access to some records showing the / some of, the Old Street Names ? Anything like this ? Possibly websites ? Or even Books etc ANYTHING............. If you do have anything like this and can copy it for us, or send me in the right direction it would surely be appreciated, as we have a lot of Orphans / Adoptees who have now managed to find out addresses of former family members, or Hospitals even, only to find that that street doesn't exist anymore, whereas in actual fact it does, it's just the name that has changed.
