Presentation Of Defence Force Medal Yesterday I Was presented with my Australian Defence Medal at a ceremony at the loacl MP's office here in Port Adelaide.
5 people were presented with their medals It was a lovely ceremony and all due protocal when presenting awards followed. We had the Wing Commander from RAAF Edinburgh there also representing the service.
He gave a brief talk on the significance of the medals and then the polly had a nag like they all do. He driibbled for a while then called us up to get our medals and to have our photos taken we were asked to say a few words.
I thanked them for making the time to presnt the medals, then we had a few more phots taken.
Then we had a nice brew and cake and biscuits and then we all had a nag then went home.
To those out there i urge you all to tick the box on your application form that says i want my medal presented by my local MP It means so much more than having it sent through the mail and it gets them pollies off their bums. It means a lot to me that medals are presented correctly With All due respect shown to recipients so go for it Regards Quinny

Quinny,
Even if you have got your medal through the mail, you can contact your local Mp or whoever, and ask them to put you on the list for the next round of presentatons. I know some who have ticked the box and yet still received them in the mail

I can relate to this ceremony Quinny. I had my presentation ceremony at the Paradise Point Bowls Club. My guest was Grahame Llewelyn from the Gold Coast Naval Association. He is such an intellegent fella and being the great ex-pusser he always has a few warries to tell. There was only a few of us today who received our medals but it was fun. Its such a buzz to get presented with a medal and it doesn't happen everyday and not everyone can get one. There was 2 other pussers there receiving awards. Chris he got out in 1996 and it was his first medal ever and another guy Ron who was a birdie and got out in 1986.

Ta for the info on the medal Kippy I was unaware that this could be done.
Thats the beauty of the internet you are learning something new each day.
I know I harp on a bit about this but it's what I believe in and although I appreciate that there are some out there that don't want all the hoo-ha and that's their choice.
My reasons for being so passionate on this subject are many and varied and i wont go into them here suffice it to say that there a lot out there that were not formally accorded due respect when receiving their medals.
Keep well kippy Regards Quinny
