Sea time It would have to be a toss up between Cooks and Stokers who did the most sea time in the average 20 years DFRDB Pension service.
As a Writer I served at sea for about 4 years on 4 separate postings (plus 12 months unaccompained service in TARANGAU (Manus Island 73-74 where I served with LSCK Knudsen, LSCK Ned Milo & ABCK Brennan).

I remember Ned Milo, he was a Cook on HMAS Sydney when i was an Ord.
Ned got in the shit for nude sunbathing in one of the safety nets that stick out from the ships side up near the flight deck.
Later on i heard that Ned was drafted to Cerberus and 'won' a Rolls Royce in an Art Union.
The story doing the rounds was that Ned was barred from bringing the Roller onto the Depot because it was too upstaging for the grunters to have an ABCK driving around Cerberus in a Roller.

Cliff that is correct. I thought that Ned, being as thrifty as he was, sold the rolla back to Rolls Royce?? Ned was different. He used to play his violin in the dongers at Tarangau and he sounded like a strangled cat. He was as fit as a bull though.

Wondered when Ferret Brennan (Snr) would get a mention in dispatches . We could probably run a whole topic on the various 'Ferrets' .
Sea time , loved it , managed 11.5 years out of 20 .

sea time WOWTR Jeanne Roberts & POCK Ferret Brennan's son Billy was an ABCK for a short while.
Sea Going Allowance ranges from $10,347 to $24,893 (eleven or more years at Sea) per year. A hell of a lot different to what I was being paid at sea!! And they still do not want to be at sea!!!
My ABWTR Daughter is on $62,936 Per year at sea. When I paid off as a CPOWTR first time round in 95 I was only on $43,000 as a Chief!!!!

The senior Ferret and I have had some "Ferret" runs that not only can't go into print , but no-one would believe anyway .He used to refer to me as his "confessor", bewdy, but I was probably pissed anyway.
Morning brews would go ..."Um , Jaffa "......"Yeah?"....."Are we in the shit?"......"Whats we, Kemo Sabe ?"
"No one is looking for us?" ....."Not yet, You effin problem "...."Good stuff "
Ah , life was so much simpler then .
