I'll get a little defensive here - firstly, I'll let you know that the Gun Plot is a full on website with a forum included. The 'Plot' is one of the original Naval themed sites and caters to all Ranks,Rates and Branches. I have been a member of the Plot since the very first incarnation from the Delphi Forum days. The Gun Plot you see now is about No 10 version, and a lot of the previous versions have been attacked by hackers attempting to destroy it. To his credit the Webmaster and owner of the Plot - Russ Graystone has fought back with newer versions of the Gun Plot and kept it going. This forum was initially started (not that long ago) as a source of information for the then upcoming cooks reunion at Caloundra. I am getting a new pc this week with the necessary capabilities to handle most things common to todays pc world. (my existing pc is now struggling to cope) When I am set up properly I will then turn the Cooks forum into a proper website - with the forum included. It will not be in competition with any other site. It will primarily be for ex pussers cooks and our other S&S branch mates. We are not doing too bad for a branch specific forum with a 100 members with only a short period of operating. In fact we are doing quite well compared to some other branch specific forums. One thing I have noticed over the years is that the Cooks do not appear to be as interested in computers as some other ex pussers branches such as the Greenies , Dibbies and Stokers. But this is slowly changing with more and more of us coming online. I have been a moderator with the Gun Plot since it first started having them and it was I who started the 'Main Galley' part of ship in that forum (have a look at the stats - it is extremely popular) and this is all due to the owner Russ Graystone providing the platform for us to do this - however if you look at the backgrounds of a lot of the posters you will find there are not that many ex cooks posting. There is a core of about 10 ex cooks who are regular posters with Gun Plot. I have not asked Russ in anyway for support with our forum and I don't expect any support either- as I said it is primarily for us to jibber amongst ourselves and our close S&S relatives AND to promote the next REUNION in 2008 at Caloundra.

Well done Cliff you have done a great job?? I must admit I didnt know that you were that smart but then again we didnt have these computers to play with then just the piss and talk shit in person. Keep up the good work Cliff and you never know I might improve myself on this f****** thing regards Judy

Noel Hillier- 11-25-2006

I agree with you jude Cliff has done a great job AS I`m still learning how to use this thing bloody thingCliff has help me a lot and I don`t think gunplot would ofhelp me any way it`s 830am and I`m getting a little hot so I better go and have a beer as some one told me once that if you leave the beer in the fridge too long it will go off and it too hot to play bowls (only joking Dave L). Regards Noel H

Well i certainly put the cat amongst the pidgeons with this last post im aware that Cliff Has worked his butt off to get this site up and running and i wasnt drawing comparisons with the gunplot site. The comparison i make is that we have plenty of visitors to our cooks site and not to many contributers I suppose its the same on the gunplot Cliff is to be commended for all his efforts and like you Noel he has helped me out heaps i have only been on this computer for a few months now . I have plenty to learn but slowly are getting there we need to get the word out and slowly slowly does it with the cooks and all this techo stuff with computers .We are a little bit slower than all the techo branches in pussers but we will get there you cant cook a roast lamb dinner in a half hour I've seen a cook try on one occasion but thats another story I dont mind you getting defensive cliff you have every right to the site can only get better and with me throwing in the green grenade from time to time it promotes healthy chat between us all. Regards Quinny

kippy- 11-26-2006

We are a little bit slower than all the techo branches Quinny, I would suggest you stop while you are still "safe". As a regular visitor to many forums, the fact that a lot of people only visit and not respond is "normal". It is the quality of the post and not the amount of posts that is important. General interest topics is what people like to read, not a lot of personal stuff that can be sent via the PM system.

quinny- 11-27-2006

Sorry don't mean to offend anyones sensitivities Just found out what the PM system is and will use that. I'm still on my L plates on this computer about 6 months ago the Mrs done a course and come home and I thought I'd give it a go and the more I get to know I now have a better understanding of things and you are right Kippy - There are alot of visitors to sites and not to many posters - so i will pull me head in and be a little more patient Thats the go I reckon Patience has never been one of my finer suits But I'll try Regards Quinny

CliffWhatley- 11-27-2006

Stop worrying Quinny, I always reckoned that with a bit of makeup you'd scrub up quite nicely. wtf

quinny- 11-27-2006

Not wrong and have the phots to prove it to Cliff, I still have'nt worked out how to use the photo shop so i will send you some phots to your email and you can decide if you want to post them. In one of your emails you mentioned that you had a picture of some cooks out side the Main Galley at the Tross. Id dearly love a copy of that one mate see what you can do did'nt even know what a avatar was until yesterday, stuff these L plates I'll be glad when I get off them although with computers I don't think you ever do. Cheers Mate

Noel Hillier- 11-28-2006

quinny Don`t worry as we are all still learning how to use this bloody things I only wish it was like drinking I would know how too use it(I think) Regards Noel H PS Cliff how about get some sort of pic frame set up we can get a look at some of us old folks and put a face to our names

quinny- 11-29-2006

Yes Noel like if it was as easy as sinking a schooner id be a god damn expert only take one session at the wets and all us cooks would be computer literate, but like the drinking which came easy to most of us i reckon us cookies will be experts at these too. I wiill be posting some phots or cliiff will as he is the one who is up on how to do this keep well old mate Regards quinny

CliffWhatley- 11-30-2006
