A confession, sometimes I come here it logs me on automatically. Sometimes not, so I'll have to check each time or keep making a goose of myself. The topic above is mine. Any one can stuff up, but you need a computer to really stuff up, big time.

In 82 Yarra was in Manilla, I was duty Wardroom Cook. I was out on the quarter deck after OD rounds. :) A few of the cooks were trying to get onboard, but I could see QM, pointing and waving them away. I couldn't work out what the drama was. Next thing they jumped into the oggen, near me, then climbed up on a pontoon, then onto the wharf. :?: The QM finally allowed them back onboard. I asked what was the the problem. Seems their short cut back to the ship was via the local sewerage ponds.................phew.

DAGGY- 03-25-2006

Its been my experience that Cooks carried on a fair bit up top, but it seems Cooks on here a bit shy. No stories on this topic have come in. I recall the pommie master at arms coming onboard Yarra in HK, stating a whole lot of stuff we couldn't do. The only thing remembered was don't go to Pinkies Tattoo Parlor. obviously that where they all went, just needed a location

Hi all, can`t believe that some 370 odd views of this topic since it was posted and no dits to read,we all know once we cleared Syd heads we were single lads and what occured up top stayed there ,BUT,there has to be some stories that can be shared, one that me and the culprit still talk and have a good laugh about was the nature run permitted to unfortunates that are on stoppage of leave when you visit a port ,this was in Rottadam mid 70s and Jack Steyne and myself offered to escort one Murray Oates on a 4 hour nature run in said city, well the nature run included a half hour trip to the Heinikken(think thats how you spell it)brewery, three hours sampling their brew then half hour back to ship, think he may have still been on stoppage if we had'nt had a friendly cox to greet us as we poured him back on board, so come on lads let us old salts that miss the good times relive some good times through this site,I have many and happy to post if interest is there

quinny- 09-13-2007

Yes bob there are some shy ones out there i reckon. They need a little prompting now we have got a bigger membership a lot of these older topics will get a second lease of Life im tipping . Does any one know what become of Murray Oates another legend in his own brew break was Murray. Believe me the interest is there and dont worry to much who submit just look at how many that read it without comment. Its the same on every site you will always get more readers than writers . Cant find Jacks Phone but i will chase him up and get back to all that asked after him . Regards Quinny

Well to me you have'nt been up top until you have done the following :- (1)Watched the sunrise in Bugis street. (2)Done the dance of the flamers in same street on top of the toilet block. (3)Got a tattoo in pinkies when your pissed. (4)And of course you must get the clap at some time. Theres plenty I've missed out on but what a run ashore in those 70s?, It was great, you could get a feed, fight and a gut full of piss and also a naughty and have change out of a 20, plenty of time alongside and the rabbits were a bonus Now the story about the Monkey. We were along side in Medan and I was on the Vendetta it was 1974 and we had been up top 4 or so months and Medan was our last port of call before we came home . I went ashore and had a few sherberts with the boys as you do and we had a smokie on the local beach. There was all these monkeys hanging around and we were feeding them our scraps and i decided to catch one and take him home always wanted a pet monkey, any way, I caught one and it was late in the night be4 i got back on board I had this monkey stuffed in my shirt and of course I was fully charged by this time. I stumbled up the gangway and the QM said "Whats in ya shirt"?, It's a monkey I said. You cant bring it on board any way they tied it to the work boat and I went to the rack. Wakey wakey saw me piped to the gangway to get rid of same monkey but he did'nt want to go as a the sailors have been feeding him and he knew when he was on a good wicket and with a monkey comes monkey shit and I cleaned a scrubbed the Work Boat, got a good dressing down from the Swain but not much more. It gave the gangway staff something to do to babysit the monkey. We done another trip up top and they always asked the question when I came back on board any monkeys quinny . Regards Quinny

Anyone remember the bridge in Jakarta? Used to be a load of 'senior citizens' under it who used to give head to the troops. It was on the way back onboard (Tanjong Priok), dentures in or out optional :-) You could always tell the troops who had been there by the black band across their shoulder blades on their whitefronts, as they just leaned back against the arch as they were being serviced. Living in Singapore (past 13 years) and visit Jakarta often to play golf. Think I can find that damn bridge?

wallerone69- 10-10-2007

Now lads lets all be honest, how many had a little grin on their face when they read this ditty bout the bridge in Jakarta?

I wonder if one of the Leading Cooks on DDG PERTH during the African ( Capt Robert Percy ) remembers how it was ok for him to get stuck into a beannie boy in Singapore as he was drunk at the time and could not remember but he could remember she looked beautiful
