Neil,
Shit Street (Hotel Street) was just somewhere to drive through on the way to Honolulu.
That was the first time I saw the coppers with the Harley Trikes. In the back they carried all sorts of clobber - you name it - shotguns etc.
One of the troops (from the Perth I think) was killed there, so most of us kept a wide berth at the time.
The roughest place we stepped was Pearl City I think, anyway I had a good run in Pearl City.

The laundomat run went something like this .
"Excuse me Miss , I'm not to sure about these American coins, do I have enough for this machine?"
"Why Yes , you have plenty of quarters . you put them in here and press this button . Where are you guys from , are you English?"
"We're Australian miss , our ship is here for a few days , then off again."
" So you haven't seen much of the island then ? Hey , Betty , come and meet these guys , they talk so cute . Oh , and I'm a Mrs not a Miss , but don't tell anyone ."
Da Dit Da Dit Da Dit , and another ANZUS Treaty is delivered .
Oh , and the laundry , sheets and towels , jocks and socks , loaded into dilly bag to be picked up later . Think I've still got some there .
John Kennaway (LSTD) and I always made the laundromat our first run , set up the whole visit from there . 8)

Cooks like Stokers get their everyday working rigs cleaned at Pusser's expense, correct??
So why are all the Cooks visiting Laundromats in Hawaii???
Lindsay,
Some of us actually wore civvies ashore, there is possibly a clue there as to why we went to a Laundromat. (besides the women and booze machines)
:P
