So Lindsay , never get to Vancouver then ? In 76 we called in on Supply . There was a reception/dance put on for our crew at HMCS Cook (Local Depot). There were 120 sailors , all ranks and 200+ ladies (all types) .
Story was , that the women in Vancouver out numbered the men 2 and a bit to one . A lot of Canucks go south to the states to work
and as it was summer all the fishing fleets were further north working and ....well it was summer as they know it and mating season .....Yeh , we all mated pretty well  8)

Bit like the patch at Albatross when CAG went to sea on the 'Melbourne' methinks Jaffa. pirate
Did you ever go to Pearl Harbour when the 'Enterprise or Constellation' was at sea.
I had some of my best runs ashore in the laundromat at Pearl

WRONG!!!
My lik lik Mari ws Judy from narangall on the way to mamotte Airport.
I left Manus on 02 Apr 74.
When did you post in to Manus?
Jaffa- 06-14-2008
Yeah , Pearl got to be real good when the carriers and the Marine Division went on thier annual cruise to Japan 8) Amazing the amount of international co-operation and fraternization that started in the laundromat and the PX . "Just loovve the way you guys talk !"
Then there was the beer machine in the laundromat that took Oz 10c pieces and spat out a can of Bud in return . Cost the ships fund a fortune!
CliffWhatley- 06-14-2008
I spent my first 2 runs ashore in the Laundromat near where we tied up at Pearl Harbour. Did'nt even get off the premises.
I think it was those Armchair TV's and the Beer Machines (Budweiser and Michealob) that did it for me. The Carrier wives had nothing to do with it. gun

Mate I was 'smooth as decktread'.....remember that saying???

The same with the beer machines in Japan in 1972. But the 2 cent coins were roughly the same size as a 100 Yen coin. One could get well lathered for 20 cents Australian.

I did RIMPAC 80 on the Melbourne (was a chippy then) but I never even heard about the laundromat, Damn! I had a few sherbets at the submariners wets and bought a ripper diving knife at the PX.
I stepped straight to shit street, and was a street ever properly named as this one? I have been to some pretty sleazy run down places and this was right up there.

Which PX (USAF Hickham, the Marines at Pearl or the huge Navy PX at Pearl). I went to all 3 hunting bargains in 92.
Cooks like Stokers get their everyday working rigs cleaned at Pusser's expense, correct??
So why are all the Cooks visiting Laundromats in Hawaii???
Anonymous- 06-15-2008
I acquired a RNZ Navy Green River Diver's knife and sheath when I swapped a RAN Pusser's Diving knife with a Kiwi CD in 85.
I still have the knife that is razor sharp in my wardrobe.
