Trevor Waye now that is a Cook's name that rings a bell from years ago!!! I never did like the idea of shift work. But I did like the idea of days off and early boats that you guys mastered!!!!!!

Yeah , Lindsay . 24offs first day in any where , were our great up - yours to the rest of the world .
But then , 24s about for 8-9 months up top , weren't much fun . When we got along side , the rest of the crew would go into 4 watches , but we stayed in 2 .
Was ok at sea , got to sit around the uppers on those big metal bollardy thingoes catching rays and pissing off the dibbies . But along side it meant never a lay in , or a real break . So most of the time we were half pissed or badly hung over .There was probably a healthier way to do it (no piss!!!) but I failed badly .

Jaffa what I couldn't work out when I was at sea as a PO & Chief, why the cooks didn't seek from the Supply Officer a better watchbill routine for themselves??
The PO & CPOCKs who were enforcing these routines were themselves once ABCKs??
Or was it the old bull sh*t logic that I had to do it and it didn't kill me so you can do it as well??
That's Navy logic in many fields!!

Cliff,
I see your mate the 'Million Dollar Cook' Gordon Ramsay is in Sydney doing the rounds of the Restaurants checking out the various styles and talents of the Chefs on display?
Pity you didn't live in Sydney, you could have got your favourite Cook Book signed by him?
cheers,
Lindsay

He has nothing on Pussers cooks Lindsay, he may have a mouth, but we have talent.
Pussers cooks don't have cookbooks, it's all stored in our swedes, because we don't forget nothing.

Ando,
What!!!!....LOL...My Dad once told me "self praise counts for naught"...lol.
Yes but Ramsay's worth $130 Million!!!
Well I ate the food for well over quarter of a century and I am still walking..lol.
cheers,
Lindsay

The fact is that Ramsay is a big mouth.
I too saw the channel 9 'interview' and the associated promoting of this idiot. It is not necessarrily what he is saying, but HOW he says it. The idiot would'nt last 5 minutes in Pussers with that tone. (unless he can really go the knuckle)
Some poor bugger would probably do Holdsworthy time over him.
I'd rather be broke and happy than have his income. (temporary happiness)
He must be the target of a lot of hostility as well as his so called popularity (as promoted by TV interests). The idiots on his shows must be really desperate people (or well rewarded in the end) to put up with his tone.
At the moment I am worth about $500, but i am not looking over my shoulder 24/7 half expecting some dork to have a go at me. (4)

Cliff,
With a total worth of $500 any chance of a short term loan at mate's rates???...lol
I lived in the S & S Mess with the Cooks for 6 months on Anzac in 1970. Talk about mouths, stand over merchants & knuckle merchants!!
It was the worst 6 months of my life and I dare say actually turned me off future periods of sea service!!
Not to mention the number of times I have been abused by Cooks for querying the food being served up for scran???
cheers,
Lindsay

Ya would have to remind me of the 21 days I did for snottin' that prick XO hahaaa
CliffWhatley- 06-21-2008
Don't know what the complaint is - at least you survived the 6 months on the ZAC.
Now 6 months on the Melbourne would be another matter.
Like I mentioned in my last post, it's not what you say, but HOW you say it.
Lots of people had a beef about scran and they survived. :P
CliffWhatley- 06-21-2008
Sorry Paul, I was provoked

Paul,
Snotty Cleary (ex Coxswain) & Andy Hobbs (ex Writer) now LCDRs both did 21 days in Holdsworthy are sailors. Didn't appear to bother the Officer's Selection Board when they were promoted.
cheers,
Lindsay

I don't think I could have lived with all the 3 badge Cockroaches that abounded in Melbourne.

Iwas a OD and a AB/CK on the Zac for 14 months 1961 -63 and we had a couple of writers living with us and i have been on many a pissy run with them and we never had a cross word with them and a lot of cooks came and went . the only people who were told whats what! were the loudmouth whingers and i never heard of one sailor dying from eating the scran.  cheers Johnno
