Very nicely put Cliff . I agree 100% .
Likewise mate looks like we are heading in the right direction on this Best wishes quinny
Probably starting this weekend I will start going through the list and deleting some of the members.
These will the ones that nobody can identify with - some with only a nickname and nothing else.
I have noticed that a few have been putting some details in their profiles - this is really great, reason being that we can identify with you, even if we don't know you personally. (Anyone at the 2006 reunion can back me up on that.)
All that is really needed is the era you served, and rank if any upon discharge and a name that we can identify with.
If you were'nt in pussers, it does'nt really matter, just say so in your profile and your association with us, even if its' just out of interest and you don't know anybody.
Should you look at my profile, or Quinnys, or Jaffa's you will get the idea. (There are heaps of others with similar). We don't need or want street addresses and phone numbers (for your own protection) just States or Towns/Cities/Areas etc will do. (You can swap that info privately via email or personal messages here through the forum)
I have also put my name and number at the end of all my posts, because I put a fair few messages in the Forum and I am an Administrator and you all should know the mongrels name who is writing all of this stuff :P
Dont forget that if it is a little over your head, just email myself or Jaffa or Paul with some basic info and we will/can do it for you. (Gladly......I hope )
I think there will be a few pissed off Cooks around the place when they find they can't log in and have to rejoin all over again, so i would appreciate it if the word got around to those who only visit every few months (or years in some cases)
I just read through the above and shit it sounds heavy, I'm not really like that......honest. (1)
I think I've covered where we are coming from and as I said before .....Don't take it personally. (just because you may have to rejoin the forum.)
The Forum will become more important in the lead up to the next Reunion so this is pretty high on the 'must do' list.
Yes mate perhaps those with email addresses could be contacted with a form email something along the Lines of - Your details need updating on the Cooks site and while you're in there please submit something That would be good Thanks mongrel
I'm an old snapper thanks for that.....
I'm an old snapper thanks for that.....
That means you must have a huge lump on your head Smiddy.
I have begun sending a few emails out to some with a request to include a little more ID in their Profiles and/or Signature.
Thanks Quinny, it is hard cracking the whip when you know half of 'em anyway.
(4)
Please have a go at the Poll (4)
Yes could'nt agree more Cliff Its hard crackin the whip when you know a lot of them.
The old saying 'You can lead a horse to Water', comes readily to mind, I wont beat my self up too much over this.
Keep well quinny
The Poll is just about finished and it's 100% for some ID in your profiles.
I am very pleased to say that quite a lot have responded and put some basic ID up so we all know who is part of the forum.
Sad to say that a few names will be deleted very soon and will have to join up all over again if they want to keep in contact with what's happening.
This time some basic information will be required by myself and/or the other Administrators before activation.
I will assist anyone who is having difficulty - just send me the ERA served, a few ships and depots and a name that we can all identify with and i will do your profile for you.
The active members have spoken and the message is loud and clear.
Regards Cliff
BZ Cliff or Whatto or whatever is politically correct. To me you will always be (HE WHO MUST BE OBEYED) Keep well mate .
Well some of you may have noticed by now that I have chopped a few names from the forum.
They are'nt deleted or anything like that, it just means that they have to go through the process if they want to rejoin.
I have sent a few messages out and the response has been good (generally speaking)
Quite a few have signature information, but you don't get to see this unless they post a message. The Admin people know who they are with all of the important details supplied.
This is just a suggestion - if you really want to know somebody - simply sent them an email or private message. This can be done through the forum by just clicking on the name. (as opposed to someone who may post a message with no ID at all supplied and this is usually just an oversight or unfamiliararity with computers)
I am pissed and amazed at what a bunch of good natured hands we all seem to be with no obvious disputes happening.
A main reason I think is that we keep our politics to ourselves and are more intent on fostering goodwill between ourselves ie promoting the Reunion etc (Those who went to the 2006 Reunion will know what I am on about)
Anyway I'm starting to jibber on a bit here and I am stone sober, so I better just shut up or i will get myself into strife with someone or other. :P
Quite a lot of the members are already known to me, if not I send them an email requesting basic information before activation.
I also check out the email address to make sure it is valid, they can't fill in the profile until I activate them in the first place,
I have a copy of most Cooks addresses all the same and i also check against this.
This Forum is not like your other Forums and this issue has been bashed out beforehand. It is run by the members and all I do is administrate it.
I soon get notified if there is a problem.
Most of the members are easily identifiable to someone, and the main purpose of this Forum is/was to promote the reunion.
I have saved the profile information on these members and sometimes fill in the profile myself if necessary, especially if they post something.
For whatever reason some do not want to be publicly identified and I respect this as long as I know who they are.
How do you know about identifcation issues anyway? ,
You can always send an email or a PM to the person you are asking about if you need to know who they are.
Like I said before, I have the actual valid email addresses saved and they are also in the administration panel which has very limited access to about 3 of us.
We have quite a few currently serving members as well.
They main problem in the past has been spammers accessing the site, but I think this has been cured.
There are some posts from the past about this issue and you can read up on them.
Here is a passage from the intitial post i made about this issue in this very thread :-
".Please direct any personal abuse to me by Private Message or Email.
But don't forget to contact us if you want it done for you.
AND don't take this personally".
