Some, if not most, Free Anti-Virus software, ARE virus's haha!

Some including Anti Spyware programs are also loaded with nasty stuff.

I clean garbage off daily, and they won't stop many bugs getting through.

Have been running ESET NOD32 for a while now and pretty happy with it, but time to check out some others as well.

Just a tip (if you guys have XP and not Vista), the best Free anti spyware scanner at the moment is SuperAntiSpyware, if interested do a Google for the Free Version, I have tried and tested it this with great success for around 6 months now on many machines.

I download the exe, install, then do a definition update.

Then make sure the shortcut is on the desktop and reboot into Safe Mode clicking on F8 during boot.

As Safe Mode loads, be sure to click YES when the Restore comes up. YES, actually means NO to doing a restore point.

Once you have the basic Safe Mode desktop up, double click on SuperAntiSpyware icon.

Wait for a bit, then you will see the icon bottom right hand corner in startup shortcuts, or the program will just show up its own window.

Once you see the Super interface window thingy, select as follows;

Scan your Computer
Select Complete Scan
Select C:/ DRIVE

Ok, the scan should begin and it will take on average around 40 minutes depending on how much stuff you have in C.

Once finished, just go Next...Restart.

Just open Super again in normal Windows, go to Preferences and untick;
Start SuperAntiSpyware when Windows Starts.

At your own peril Smiddy, AVG is useless.

Have just moved on from Eset Nod32 and installed BitDefender AV program, the ducks guts in all reviews.

It's not intrusive like Norton...

Ha Paul,

the old Toshiba lap top of 5 years is playing funny buggers, kids have been playing games using memory sticks who knows where hell those sticks have been. Anyway the Windows Explorer keeps coming up with a message to say its had a gut full and now the there is big message to tell me there is virus present and we need to install anti spy wear to fix the problem thought I'd ask you before I head off to the witch doctor.

G'day Craig, if you can manage to shut down all those pop up messages, see if you can go online and download a Free program SuperAntiSpyware. Update the definitions, then leave a shortcut on the desktop.

Reboot in SAFE Mode (click on F8 during bootup) to run the program and do a complete system scan.

This will rid the machine of any trojans.....

Nope, run Eset NOD32 here Popeye and happy as a pig in ..it with it.
This free program I recommended was just to do a deep scan for trojans in Safe Mode....a one off which should not have to be used again, is excellent for removing a virus called COP THIS!
Antivirus 2007 or 9

I have used AVG for years without any hassles. For the last 9 months or so, I have changed to IObit advancedcare systems and have no problems with it either. Both are free dowloads

Yep tested BitDefender, went back to NOD32.

So far nothing has got past it, doesn't take up huge resources and updates quietly in the background.

Anyway, I only use SuperAntiSpyware as a one off tool to clean up trojans that are in other peoples machines, who incidentally, use AVG hahaa!
