Over the last couple of years I have said that I would create a fully fledged Cooks Site.

I have asked several people what they thought of the idea and most of the replies were against it saying that this Forum has almost everything we need. (The Stories and Photo sections eg)

I would like to add that this is your Forum and I just try to oversee the running of it. It is not a commercial enterprise in anyway that I know of.

The Forum exists to promote goodwill amongst us and to promote Reunions etc. (As evidenced by the last 2 Reunions at Caloundra)

Having said the above I am putting it to the members with the question:- Do you think we need a Website or is this Forum ok?.

Just my personal view having also had a forum Cliff, no, because my website mainpage was virtually just the portal to get to the main storage and participation area which was the forum.
In my humble opinion, this is great, a hive of activity and as long as members use PhotoBucket to store their photos, there is no need to set up what may be an expensive server space area to store other photo albums etc..

I had 10 gig (which is relatively small) server space for my old website which I closed because it just got too much to handle, crashed all the time anyway.

Hi all,

I have been a member of this Forum for only a few weeks now after being in the "wilderness" for 30 odd years (with some years more being more odd than others) and I have noticed that the same small handful of members have a great time communicating through the Forum. I see the need to expand in some way to include more members, or at least encourage more members to participate.

Even if more come on board and just talk shit; it is participation. Needs to be encouraged more.

I don't know the answer to Cliff's initial question other than, I don't think a website to be the answer. You guys will know more than me (of course) as you have been continually involved.

Thanks for the platform and I hope to use it when I have something worthwhile to say !!!

What more would you need on a site like this?

There are avenues for almost any topic to be explored.

There are avenues for people to find/catch up with mates.

There are avenues for information regarding Veterans affairs, health, etc.

There are avenues for ones to share a bit of humour.....

And the list goes on.

The only avenue that is not here is the avenue, where most of us would not want to go anyway Wink

Keep the site and the forum as it is, Cliff. You do a great job and make a lot of people happy. Isn't that the main reason for running the site in the first place???

Hear, hear. I think it's great just the way it is. If people aren't going to participate in this one, they are not likely to do much anywhere else either. You can lead a horse to water, but can't make him drink. Or you can lead a cook to the forum but you can't make him join in. You are doing a great job.

Cliff,

I totally agree with all that has been said mate. There is nothing more to be offered having a dedicated website, apart from a lot more headaches for you and I don't think you want that.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You are doing a fantastic job just as it is.

My favourite statement to the Child Bride when she over organises anything is ... "too many moving parts "... and I think that is what will happen Cliff .
KISS Mate . If they want to come they will , making it a formal site wont change anything .
We have had our share of dickheads that wanted to abuse the site , only one , from memory, was an ex cook . so we are doing fine as is .
Just one thing .....put some more BLOODY DETAILS up people so we all know who you are!!! Its simple, it's easy and it's neccesary . Cool

Cliff

Agree with all the others. You have a good site going here and is easy to get around.

I agree with Jaffa about people not putting details in as it is nice to know who you are speaking to and what they did.

yea if its not broke dont fix it .We have a good site and to go bigger would make the site as it is loose all its uniqueness.I have said right from the outset no one knows a Pussers cook like another cook we were a unique branch in Pussers. We have a similar loyalty to most other sailors but we a a little bit different .

All branches are the same and a lot of them have their own sites but this forum page we have is just right the KISS principle works good So i say leave well enough alone as can be attested to the replies to this request for feed back .I look back to the days when there were only about 3 0r 4 regular posters and we hung in there now look at us .

Just while we are touching on all things cooks siteI had a 24 off yesterday and didn't get on the computer till this morning and I had 28 unread posts to catch up on.It is very pleasing to note all the new people who have submitted something on here.

I'm rather pleased that the exwrans are throwing their hat in the ring and are now a regular part of the forum with their posts . It has taken a while but the word has got out and Kymme our latest member like all exwrans on site will be a regular contributor .

One that sticks out on this site like dogs testicles is our willingness to help each other out and i urge you all to use the resources of this site.

And never be backward in coming forward With ideas you may think will improve this site .The chances are the idea you come up with Will be one that some one has thought of but hasnt bothered to post .

<Still>has been of the radar for 30 years and his posts are always worth a read and Even if you come on here and take the piss out of someone it helps keep the site vibrant

Here endeth the sermon now kindly place the bibles in your Throwing arm and And throw at Reverend Quinn .

Dunno, never go around looking at dogs thingys.

Agree wholeheartedly, participation has most certainly stepped up.

Just please remember something, if any of your posts are 'moderated', PLEASE don't take it as a personal attack and be offended by it.

I at times have moderated/edited my OWN posts thinking the next day they may have stepped over the line, commonsense goes out the window on occasions.
